The radar returns cleared up for second half, but the dust was still above 6K and not stable. I waited a bit longer to see if it would improve, and it did not. I decided to risk it, since it seemed stable enough (a tad above the limit) and there were only a few hours left to accumulate the dust. It was not as stable as I had hoped, but I stayed open. 08:03:39 Motion error in Az at 99.7 When I went to push the stop button to fix it, I saw that tsepc was freewheeling quickly on the NA2 rotator. Once I released the stop button, and we retried the slew, it was normally behaved again. I don't know how many times it went around, or when it started. I checked the position when I sent it to 0 at closing. Did the heater setpoint test on DIS during second half. I started the darks even when the temps were not at the setpoint, and hopefully they tell us something useful. At about 1:15 local time temp was 178.43, I set the heater to 179.00. I watched the heater come on. An hour later temp was 178.1 and heat current was 37%. From there it went up veeeeery slooooowly. I started the darks at about 2:30 local. I left the darks running after I closed, hoping to get something useful once the setpoint is reached. 11:06:25 UT had a motion error in alt during a science exposures. For this one the only warning was that the guider lost the field, and it did not give the actual error until we tried to slew and get the field back. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 00:56 dis-slit 113( 107) 37 57 11.5 13.4 14.5 12.9 12.2 -- 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 69 30 8 10 (N) 3220 clear none 17:00 73 32 9 302 (WNW) 4102 clear none 18:00 70 32 7 2 (N) 3581 clear none 19:00 71 32 4 353 (N) 4073 mstly clr none 20:00 68 32 6 273 (W) 4532 ptly cldy dust 21:00 68 31 9 271 (W) 7163 ptly cldy dust 22:00 69 30 10 278 (W) 7854 ptly cldy dust 23:00 66 30 3 246 (WSW) 8086 ptly cldy dust 00:00 67 29 1 118 (ESE) 6553 mstly clr dust 01:00 68 29 2 276 (W) 7138 clear dust 02:00 65 30 10 64 (ENE) 7192 clear dust 03:00 64 30 15 59 (ENE) 4149 clear dust 04:00 62 32 16 65 (ENE) 3380 clear dust 05:00 64 30 3 242 (WSW) 5754 clear dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
