Seeing was also somewhat unstable as the weather patterns shifted. After a very warm day, the cooler night air was welcome, and so was the east wind to drive away the smoke. During second half a big storm system moved into our area backwards, approaching from the northeast. By the time istreached us most of the precipitation was gone, but the clouds still caused some trouble. We closed just at the start of morning twilight for clouds and threat of rain. There was one altitude tracking failure early on, while temperatures were still high. I opened the electronics cabinet and did what I could to get some cooler air in there, and after that there were no further failures. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UC03 D T/H 20:57 21:10 Alt failure/overtemp ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:54 ECHELLE 400( -254) -23 25 20.6 20.3 20.8 20.1 19.9 ND4 0.94 20:16 dis-slit 132( 641) 293 50 21.6 23.4 23.8 23.1 21.5 - 1.40 23:06 NICFPS 294( 1088) 277 62 19.2 19.4 20.1 19.2 18.7 Ks 0.91 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 79 38 12 196 (SSW) 770 ptly cldy none 17:00 83 43 4 212 (SSW) 882 ptly cldy none 18:00 78 37 6 90 (E) 734 ptly cldy none 19:00 77 36 11 87 (E) 904 mstly clr none 20:00 74 34 11 98 (E) 1042 mstly clr none 21:00 71 30 14 113 (ESE) 1070 clear none 22:00 70 30 16 108 (ESE) 1557 clear none 23:00 68 35 18 123 (ESE) 1796 clear none 00:00 66 36 20 125 (SE) 2449 ptly cldy none 01:00 66 38 19 122 (ESE) 2060 ptly cldy none 02:00 65 39 16 128 (SE) 1786 ptly cldy none 03:00 65 39 14 142 (SE) 1627 mstly cldy none 04:00 65 39 10 164 (SSE) 1671 mstly cldy none 05:00 65 39 13 141 (SE) 1621 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
