I did close before morning twilight, primarily because the remaining engineering needed a dark dome, but also partly because smoke was on the rise again. The fire center web pages are a little unclear about exactly which fire is sending us smoke, but it is at least 100 miles away if not more. After some work on Agile during the day, I obtained another instrument block. The instrument is still left-handed, unlike before its cross-country trip. I did more DIS characterization, mostly confirmation that everything is well. The spectrograph focus did not need adjustment. I was wondering if the gratings might be tilted but after investigation I concluded that the small spectral tilt is more likely in the red camera. I did adjust the slitviewer focus, and it is presently in fairly good agreement with the spectrographs. I got some throughput data on-sky and linearity characterization data after closing the dome. The dark current is still non-zero but much lower than two weeks ago. I also did a pointing model at echelle and found it in good agreement with last night's pointing model at NA2, indicating that the tertiary mirror sag behavior is stable. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:48 AGILE 475(-1237) -73 70 19.2 20.3 20.3 20.0 19.2 r 0.91 20:29 dis-slit 361( 655) -82 62 18.7 19.4 19.7 19.1 18.5 - 0.97 23:47 dis-slit 343( 562) 102 41 16.7 17.5 18.0 17.5 17.2 - 1.35 00:19 dis-slit 312( 499) 98 48 17.4 17.0 17.6 16.8 16.6 - 1.48 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 77 34 23 251 (WSW) 947 clear none 17:00 74 34 23 265 (W) 1334 clear none 18:00 73 33 25 241 (WSW) 1146 clear none 19:00 74 32 14 243 (WSW) 1536 clear none 20:00 68 27 14 253 (WSW) 1458 clear none 21:00 66 24 11 232 (SW) 964 clear none 22:00 66 24 11 220 (SW) 843 clear none 23:00 65 23 16 223 (SW) 728 clear none 00:00 65 23 8 196 (SSW) 575 clear none 01:00 62 20 6 241 (WSW) 689 clear none 02:00 65 24 7 262 (W) 724 clear none 03:00 64 22 11 273 (W) 636 clear none 04:00 65 23 3 259 (W) 1174 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
