It behaved like thick clouds, and we couldn't see stars through it. It stayed mostly in the upper atmosphere, away from us, so we never had high dust counts or smoke smell. However I stayed closed until it cleared out, waiting for when it would drop onto us. Eventually the dust did get a bit high and the humidity was high as well. When those cleared out, they took the smoke with them and we were able to open for the last few hours of the night. No other problems tonight. Echelle pointing was excellent (after being at NA2), no alt or az motion errors, and tspec did not cause the inst checks to fail in the afternoon. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:07 ECHELLE 483( -489) 0 58 15.6 15.2 15.4 15.4 15.3 ND2 0.96 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 69 34 7 225 (SW) 846 mstly clr none 17:00 72 40 18 218 (SW) 1111 mstly clr none 18:00 68 42 16 183 (S) 1324 ptly cldy none 19:00 66 43 10 209 (SSW) 1468 ptly cldy none 20:00 64 43 8 192 (SSW) 1748 ptly cldy none 21:00 63 45 12 173 (S) 1788 ptly cldy none 22:00 61 47 9 170 (S) 1977 ptly cldy none 23:00 59 50 16 162 (SSE) 2418 ptly cldy none 00:00 58 52 17 145 (SE) 2876 ptly cldy humid 01:00 58 52 22 149 (SSE) 2942 ptly cldy humid 02:00 57 53 16 168 (SSE) 3441 ptly cldy none 03:00 60 50 19 183 (S) 2918 clear none 04:00 61 50 14 187 (S) 2677 clear none 05:00 60 49 25 187 (S) 2512 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
