Before APOLLO was wrapped up and the axis stop command issued, the dataq stopped record inexplicably. It would have been around 5 minutes before the close time. I resigned myself to go without it and the strip charts tonight. The strip charts were never successfully initialized- the terminal windows only reported "waiting for connection". When the weather cleared, I slewed to high altitude to rotate the tertiary and get set up for PU05. The telescope slewed in altitude at 23:41, and I rotated. When Xu took over, we got our first of many "ControllerErr" in azimuth. Her slew did not complete. I stopped the motors, and tried again with no luck. This began a long process of troubleshooting. I power cycled the az box three times, and no one was able to establish a connection to the az controller in talk to boxes. I got blank stares in the terminal window, and Russet got Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/bin/talk2boxes", line 481, in main() File "/usr/bin/talk2boxes", line 428, in main thing.login() File "/usr/bin/talk2boxes", line 194, in login self.interact() File "/usr/bin/talk2boxes", line 345, in interact sock.connect((ts_host,tport)) File "", line 1, in connect socket.error: [Errno 61] Connection refused I went down the list and got no responses from Ed or Joe. Jon was not able to diagnose the problem either. We lost all the time in PU05, and waited on someone to call back. I closed again at 00:50. Xu (PU05) gave up at 00:49. After receiving no calls, UW07 left a phone number in case we could fix the problem. I left the telescope parked at high altitude, -34.2, 79.2, unable to slew to park, and did fills at 05:00. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PU05 ECHELLE T/H 23:41 01:10 Az motors not talking with TCC UW07 DIS T/H 01:10 05:46 Az motors not talking with TCC ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 76 37 8 257 (WSW) 1111 clear none 17:00 74 37 7 203 (SSW) 1226 clear none 18:00 78 39 5 251 (WSW) 1322 mstly clr none 19:00 74 38 8 264 (W) 1446 ptly cldy none 20:00 68 37 4 254 (WSW) 1492 ptly cldy none 21:00 67 37 4 180 (S) 1500 cloudy lt rain 22:00 57 44 1 142 (SE) 1791 mstly cldy lt rain 23:00 60 41 11 110 (ESE) 800 cloudy lt rain 00:00 62 39 7 111 (ESE) 1497 ptly cldy none 01:00 62 40 2 181 (S) 1589 mstly clr none 02:00 62 40 9 231 (SW) 1889 mstly clr none 03:00 60 43 5 199 (SSW) 2194 clear none 04:00 62 40 4 258 (WSW) 2298 clear none 05:00 62 40 2 243 (WSW) 2881 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
