That caused the late start for UW05. I kept the time for APOLLO, and listed it at "not used". During test slews, I got another az error. I opened the cabinet as soon as I was informed, and hoped that would do something. The PMSS was not recording, so during test slews I only monitored the strip charts. I relied on Russet's instructions to power cycle the PMSS in the box mounted near NA2. I did not however, clarfy where to power cycle the PMSS. I turned off the power strip in the box at 01:30 UT, waited 30 seconds, and turned it on again. PMSS was still not found. As soon as UW05 got on sky, I began seeing error messages from the secondary mirror. Not finding anything in the wiki, I called Russet for assistance. It was completely lost, and unrespnsive to focus adjustments. From discovery to solution, Russet homes the secondary within 30 minutes, and we got back on sky quickly afterwards. No more errors. We found that turning off the power switch confused the secondary, for which I am responsible. I apologize for not clarifying the correct power source to disable. I will confirm the proper procedure and alert Fritz, Jon, and Ed, and update the 3.5 m wiki to avoid confusion in the future. Radar and lightning closed us at 22:08. During this time, UW05 took cals, and noticed that "the strip of illumination is slanting up and to the right," and Russet pointed out: "interesting thing is the blue side has a slant too, but only by 3 rows over the width of the chip". We decided to make a new slit mask for the 1.5 chip. Luckily, this happened while we were closed for weather, so no science was lost. The weather kept us closed until 04:00, and I finally opened hoping to salvage some of the night. 05:30 ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW05 DIS T/H 20:55 21:30 secondary mirror lost, had to home ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:28 dis-slit 231( 529) 246 81 17.3 19.6 19.3 19.3 17.2 -- 1.26 04:05 TSPEC 350( 637) 196 54 15.2 15.2 17.5 15.3 14.8 -- 3.18 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 65 43 14 64 (ENE) 2109 clear none 17:00 74 43 7 175 (S) 2367 mstly clr none 18:00 73 36 11 232 (SW) 2092 mstly clr none 19:00 71 38 14 267 (W) 2017 mstly clr none 20:00 64 44 11 145 (SE) 1677 ptly cldy none 21:00 62 45 12 127 (SE) 1455 mstly clr none 22:00 64 43 9 142 (SE) 1715 ptly cldy none 23:00 62 42 3 120 (ESE) 2301 mstly cldy none 00:00 55 45 22 22 (NNE) 3456 mstly cldy lt rain 01:00 61 39 13 236 (SW) 2572 cloudy lt rain 02:00 61 40 7 199 (SSW) 1690 ptly cldy none 03:00 60 41 8 190 (S) 2389 ptly cldy none 04:00 60 41 4 218 (SW) 3041 mstly cldy none 05:00 59 41 2 225 (SW) 3581 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
