In this case the observers were hoping to work even in bright twilight, so the weather did prevent some planned science. When I changed to Echelle at 07:06 UT, I noticed that the PMSS A, B, and T cells were oscillating at quite a high frequency. This was with the telescope at altitude 80, not tracking the sky, facing due west, with 20 mph wind from the east. When I moved the telescope down to a lower altitude after rotating the tertiary, the oscillations stopped. I asked the observers to warn me if they would be going to high altitudes, and a few times they did get into the range 75-80 degrees, but I didn't see the oscillations again. Otherwise everything went pretty smoothly. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:42 SPICAM 390( 824) 326 51 17.9 19.0 19.4 18.9 17.8 R 0.93 00:19 ECHELLE 504( -355) 129 63 18.2 17.4 17.8 17.6 17.8 ND2 1.08 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 73 39 2 210 (SSW) 933 mstly cldy none 17:00 71 33 12 30 (NNE) 1188 mstly cldy none 18:00 71 33 11 75 (ENE) 1246 ptly cldy none 19:00 70 36 10 87 (E) 1269 ptly cldy none 20:00 68 40 6 114 (ESE) 1517 ptly cldy none 21:00 65 39 19 76 (ENE) 1731 mstly clr none 22:00 64 39 16 80 (E) 1739 mstly clr none 23:00 63 38 18 87 (E) 1701 mstly clr none 00:00 64 34 23 80 (E) 1476 clear none 01:00 65 26 17 83 (E) 965 ptly cldy none 02:00 64 25 1 201 (SSW) 747 ptly cldy none 03:00 63 28 13 80 (E) 1164 mstly clr none 04:00 63 23 18 78 (ENE) 915 mstly clr none 05:00 63 23 21 78 (ENE) 747 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
