I did a pointing check, and this worked to put a star in the guider. We confirmed her coordinates, and I got on the phone with Russet for some advice. She slewed to another bright star from the APOLLO catalog, and the pointing did not look right. Changed the instrument from BLUE_DIS to DIS, and confirmed the pointing. The bright star arreared on the slitviewer as it should. When this was confirmed, we switched back to BLUE_DIS. The pointing seemed okay after that. Anjum slewed back to her FOV with BLUE_DIS, and saw the correct field. We are not sure what this problem is. There were no pointing problems after this. This took half an hour. Had to close at 03:45 because of 5500 dust counts. Tried to open again at 04:10, but inside counts shot to 5200, so I immediately closed again. Dust levels did not go down until 05:32, when I opened again. We pushed with dust between 4400~5800 inside the dome. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW04 BLUE_DIS T/H 21:00 21:30 Unknown pointing problems. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:44 BLUE_DIS 400( 41) 235 56 5.2 6.5 6.0 6.3 4.6 -- 1.25 01:22 ECHELLE 581( -955) 131 53 3.1 4.0 4.6 3.8 3.2 ND4 0.81 03:29 dis-slit 335( -175) 288 41 4.2 3.1 3.5 2.9 3.5 -- 1.52 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 44 14 12 224 (SW) 2693 clear none 17:00 49 13 7 235 (SW) 2187 clear none 18:00 47 11 8 193 (SSW) 1780 clear none 19:00 43 9 7 222 (SW) 1724 clear none 20:00 39 9 3 203 (SSW) 1628 clear none 21:00 40 -2 6 186 (S) 1149 clear none 22:00 44 -1 3 192 (SSW) 684 clear none 23:00 44 0 4 186 (S) 395 clear none 00:00 45 0 6 191 (S) 477 clear none 01:00 38 -4 8 183 (S) 1248 clear none 02:00 38 1 6 186 (S) 2445 clear none 03:00 38 2 7 222 (SW) 2647 mstly clr none 04:00 40 3 2 255 (WSW) 6078 ptly cldy dust 05:00 40 2 2 238 (WSW) 7307 mstly cldy dust 06:00 38 2 5 353 (N) 6772 ptly cldy dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
