We had a lovely viewing night, and a good time was had by all. :) By the time we came downstairs to start our engineering work, we found that the MacMini for the PMSS was no longer talking to the Dataq box on the telescope. Jon Brinkman went up to reboot it, but this did not fix the problem. Jon said that this was a problem for Ed during the day. We mounted Dis to do some more work on the collimators. We did some testing in imaging mode to see if that gave us any better diagnostic information. Russet made some adjustments, and we tested some more. Attempted work with Fastcam. Finally got it working, except that I never really got the disk sharing to cooperate. The clouds got very heavy when I started taking data, and during the first data set the star disappeared. Everything was working properly besides the clouds. I did manage to get that one data set, so maybe there's enough star data to be helpful. The sky didn't look hopeful, so I gave up and went on to the Dis slit masks. However, at the beginning of this we did get pointing corrected on TR3. Usually the slit masks work very well for me, but tonight I was having problems. The flats all looked like biases, even though I verified that the inst=dis, the mirror covers closed, the eyelid open, the lamps really did come on, the slit in place (since we were doing imaging earlier). I even increased the exposure length for the flats from 0.4 seconds and still had no luck. Everything looked like a bias. After this, I called it a night. Joe, if you could check into whatever is going on with this, that would be amazing. I will try again in the afternoon. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:29 dis-slit 437( 496) 240 55 15.2 14.7 15.2 14.6 14.5 -- 1.02 21:47 dis-slit 430( 488) 240 52 15.3 14.6 15.1 14.6 14.6 -- 1.22 23:20 dis-slit 490( 535) 272 54 15.2 14.4 14.8 14.3 14.6 -- 1.09 23:22 dis-slit 488( 534) 271 53 15.1 14.4 14.8 14.3 14.6 -- 1.09 23:39 dis-slit 484( 540) 269 50 15.4 14.5 15.0 14.5 14.8 -- 1.14 00:46 dis-slit 430( 472) 174 62 15.2 14.5 15.0 14.6 14.6 -- 1.00 00:46 dis-slit 430( 472) 174 62 15.2 14.5 15.0 14.6 14.6 -- 1.00 01:00 dis-slit 434( 471) 178 63 15.2 14.4 14.9 14.5 14.4 -- 0.98 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 67 23 18 237 (WSW) 917 ptly cldy none 17:00 65 22 17 218 (SW) 870 ptly cldy none 18:00 64 22 15 255 (WSW) 764 ptly cldy none 19:00 63 19 15 242 (WSW) 700 ptly cldy none 20:00 60 17 19 201 (SSW) 789 ptly cldy none 21:00 59 16 16 206 (SSW) 1028 ptly cldy none 22:00 60 17 13 206 (SSW) 1025 ptly cldy none 23:00 59 15 12 205 (SSW) 909 ptly cldy none 00:00 60 16 10 227 (SW) 823 mstly clr none 01:00 59 16 12 252 (WSW) 891 mstly clr none 02:00 59 16 11 265 (W) 955 ptly cldy none 03:00 58 15 13 229 (SW) 986 mstly cldy none 04:00 58 16 15 241 (WSW) 1046 cloudy none 05:00 57 15 8 223 (SW) 956 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
