At 23:25, TUI beeped, indicating a "Motion error too large" in azimuth. The telescope was pointed in the west, in the gusty winds, although they were not above closure limits. The last recorded gust was 32.1 mph, with an average speed of ~ 25 mph. I issued a tcc axis stop, and engaged the brakes. After a few minutes, I issued a tcc axis init, and PU07 was able to slew and resume guiding on her galaxy. It happened again at 23:53, although the wind conditions were the same as the first occurrence, and the galaxy remained in the guider. I repeated my steps from the first error, and tried again. We had success again with this, and no problems for the remainder of the program. No problems the rest of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- PU07 DIS T/H 23:25 23:28 Motion control error in azimuth ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:02 dis-slit 333( 274) 240 52 11.4 12.3 12.8 12.3 11.3 -- 1.47 01:25 ECHELLE 611( -591) 177 31 10.1 9.8 10.4 10.0 9.7 ND2 2.37 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 62 20 28 257 (WSW) 2653 clear none 17:00 61 19 21 264 (W) 3368 clear none 18:00 61 18 26 266 (W) 2218 clear none 19:00 59 15 30 263 (W) 3278 clear dust 20:00 55 15 20 256 (WSW) 2038 clear dust 21:00 54 14 24 269 (W) 2610 clear none 22:00 53 13 28 265 (W) 2069 clear none 23:00 52 13 24 268 (W) 1481 clear none 00:00 51 14 23 273 (W) 1268 clear none 01:00 50 15 25 291 (WNW) 1383 clear none 02:00 49 14 22 291 (WNW) 1291 clear none 03:00 49 15 29 272 (W) 1259 clear none 04:00 48 14 20 277 (W) 1435 clear none 05:00 45 15 21 313 (NW) 1879 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
