Observing Specialist: A.Shugart
UC01 started the night and we noticed that the pointing was off. Using
Echelle, the target would always appear at the right edge of the
slitvewiewer window. I was able to get UC01 through the rest of his
observations, but when we switched to PU05, no target objects appeared in
the slitviewer.
After checking the pointing and the light pathway, we discovered that the
Echelle slitviewer filter wheel was in the wrong position. Where I thought
it was a clear filter, the wheel was physically in position 3. I manually
moved the filter, and we were able to see our targets. Russet talked me
through editing the NA!.DAT file to adjust the tilt of the mirror, and the
pointing problems did not give us any more trouble. The problem with the
filterwheel did not reappear the rest of the night.
Other than that, no troubles.
