At 19:55, dunring the last minute of a 1200s exposure, the echelle guider kicked the guide star out of the mask and made a jump 20-30". See proc-e0370 and proc-e0371. Called Russet to help investigation of guiding issue. We noticed a very low S/N in the first two objects observed. After confirming pointing, and reslewing to previous targets with much improved results and S/N, we were unable to find an explanation for the guider's behavior, or any indication that the pointing was off from the beginning of the night. We continued with observations when the guider behavaed happily after the pointing check. The rest of the night went well, with seeing between 0.8 and 1.8". ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM01 ECHELLE T/H 19:10 20:10 Pointing errors ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:08 ecamera 699( -482) 230 77 4.4 4.3 4.5 4.2 3.8 clear 1.11 22:15 SPIcam 590( 620) 39 49 5.1 4.2 4.7 4.3 4.3 SDSSr 0.86 01:33 dcamera 459( 284) -20 51 4.1 3.1 3.5 3.2 3.5 -- 1.96 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 40 20 10 357 (N) 392 clear none 17:00 41 19 0 218 (SW) 266 clear none 18:00 38 18 11 30 (NNE) 283 clear none 19:00 40 9 18 35 (NE) 209 clear none 20:00 41 3 19 16 (NNE) 228 clear none 21:00 41 4 13 12 (NNE) 245 clear none 22:00 41 3 13 17 (NNE) 197 clear none 23:00 41 3 8 3 (N) 161 clear none 00:00 39 2 1 10 (N) 185 clear none 01:00 39 2 1 278 (W) 167 clear none 02:00 39 4 5 202 (SSW) 210 clear none 03:00 36 12 6 228 (SW) 191 clear none 04:00 36 14 5 186 (S) 207 clear none 05:00 36 16 6 184 (S) 242 clear none 06:00 35 16 7 146 (SE) 265 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
