Opened at sunset, and then things got dicey after 20:00. Closed, reopened for an hour, and closed again. Did not open again, and gave up at 05:15 Because of the awful seeing, there wasn't much we could do. We did the ecam tests as requested, fixed pointing on NA1, took a bunch of throughput measurements, and attempted to check collimation. This one proved to be impossible, as the primary never equilibrated with the outside temperatures, and when we tried the seeing and wind shake were beyond the Sensoft ability to fit properly. We also homed the secondary. Took some test exposures for Tspec for the Dim Quartz filters. They are in the engineering directory under tspec. Power was stable, spicam space heater is left ON. Tspec is mounted on the telescope. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:25 ECHELLE 599(-1285) 71 61 -5.2 -2.7 -2.9 -4.2 -5.1 Clear 1.70 19:14 ECHELLE 514(-1422) 84 35 -6.2 -4.4 -4.4 -5.1 -6.1 Clear 1.50 20:36 dis-slit 421( -621) -71 79 -7.1 -6.6 -5.8 -6.8 -7.3 -- 2.60 22:19 dis-slit 399( -653) 87 38 -8.2 -7.6 -6.8 -7.5 -8.2 -- 2.60 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 29 0 17 23 (NNE) 4378 clear none 17:00 26 -4 7 25 (NNE) 1603 clear none 18:00 24 -3 23 0 (N) 867 clear none 19:00 22 0 21 18 (NNE) 616 clear none 20:00 20 1 29 5 (N) 604 clear dust 21:00 19 0 4 7 (N) 518 clear none 22:00 18 1 7 24 (NNE) 738 clear none 23:00 17 1 11 5 (N) 1120 clear none 00:00 15 0 22 1 (N) 822 clear none 01:00 14 -1 20 359 (N) 694 clear none 02:00 12 -4 24 26 (NNE) 440 clear none 03:00 12 -2 38 29 (NNE) 399 clear none 04:00 12 -4 32 28 (NNE) 403 clear none 05:00 15 -13 28 19 (NNE) 333 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
