GFP/IFS was almost ready to go at sunset, but a few more kinks had to be worked out. At last we got going on the sky and obtained successful lenslet spectra of a knot in an external galaxy. Second half DIS apparently worked as commanded... however two spectra were lost when the command to expose for some reason went through as a dark rather than an object. A third exposure on the same object, which was stopped early, went through as an object exposure even though the observer was certain that he only pressed the Start button without changing anything else. This seemed unlikely to be human error but of course not impossible, and no other likely explanation presents itself. So far as logs can determine, the instrument did what was commanded; the only question concerns the command generation. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:35 GFP 375( -293) -21 72 -2.2 -2.3 -2.0 -2.6 -2.6 4700 0.76 00:15 dis-slit 483( -396) 201 68 -1.6 -3.5 -3.1 -3.6 -3.2 - 1.35 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 32 14 11 301 (WNW) 1108 clear none 17:00 30 11 4 331 (NNW) 1068 clear none 18:00 28 11 6 348 (NNW) 936 clear none 19:00 28 13 8 308 (NW) 878 clear none 20:00 27 14 7 279 (W) 885 clear none 21:00 28 14 7 260 (W) 888 clear none 22:00 27 12 7 219 (SW) 916 clear none 23:00 27 13 3 228 (SW) 1021 clear none 00:00 28 10 7 229 (SW) 1145 clear none 01:00 27 7 9 229 (SW) 1236 clear none 02:00 28 10 9 193 (SSW) 1206 clear none 03:00 27 15 8 238 (WSW) 1221 clear none 04:00 28 12 9 260 (W) 1196 clear none 05:00 27 17 10 219 (SW) 1132 clear none 06:00 27 15 12 253 (WSW) 1398 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
