Seeing was mostly decent, but variable all night. This afternoon we had issues with the tertiary mirror again. Bill and Russet worked on it, and got it into a workable state. Yi was able to take biases on DIS while this was going on, so I didn't count it as lost time. Then he took his cals, and we opened at 17:30. Then we had some issues with tracking in Az, but fixed it quickly. Russet made a pointing correction, and we finally got off and running at 18:00. No other problems the rest of the time Dis was on. When switching to NICFPS, I lost about 15 minutes to what I thought could be a mirror or pointing problem (because I was afraid it would happen) but actually turned out to be a mistake on my part. Nicfps had one instance of bad reads, which was fixed by nicfps expose init. It was immediately followed by a missed fiducial and the dome had to be reset. After that everything was good the remainder of the night. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (I don't have times for this) Don York reported that for about the last hour of his observations he was not getting image downloads on his computer. ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:54 dis-slit 403( 55) 285 78 5.6 7.0 7.0 7.2 5.6 -- 1.00 19:21 dis-slit 274( -125) -118 46 5.4 5.5 5.7 5.4 5.2 -- 1.11 00:45 NICFPS 453( 441) 238 66 3.7 3.7 4.2 3.8 3.5 Clear 2.35 00:52 NICFPS 413( 427) 316 40 3.4 3.6 4.1 3.7 3.3 Mk-Ks 0.96 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 44 19 9 293 (WNW) 175 clear none 17:00 42 20 8 285 (WNW) 163 clear none 18:00 42 21 16 299 (WNW) 156 clear none 19:00 41 24 10 289 (WNW) 203 clear none 20:00 41 24 8 275 (W) 229 clear none 21:00 41 22 15 315 (NW) 213 clear none 22:00 41 21 5 359 (N) 218 clear none 23:00 40 24 8 1 (N) 236 clear none 00:00 40 24 2 12 (NNE) 213 clear none 01:00 38 22 10 28 (NNE) 200 clear none 02:00 39 21 12 352 (N) 120 clear none 03:00 37 25 19 357 (N) 145 clear none 04:00 37 23 20 23 (NNE) 144 mstly clr none 05:00 38 18 11 45 (NE) 133 mstly clr none 06:00 38 14 11 14 (NNE) 101 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
