Seeing was poor at initial focus but quickly settled to sub-arcsecond levels, then degraded to moderateas a warm front came through second half. I had trouble with the Agile rotator during checkout, resolved by power cycling the controller; later the filter wheel timed out on a few longer moves but recovered easily when homed. GIFS had a readout problem that rendered it unusable, causing stars to trail across the image when the guider showed the telescope was tracking properly. After a couple of hours of trying to figure it out, we switched to DIS. I didn't list the time as lost to equipment problems since GIFS is not yet a regular facility instrument. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:03 AGILE -1350(-2750) 59 38 -6.3 -5.6 -5.0 -5.7 -6.4 r 2.10 03:14 dis-slit 459( -374) 139 55 -0.8 -2.8 -2.6 -2.4 -1.6 - 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 23 0 11 278 (W) 335 clear none 17:00 21 0 14 313 (NW) 377 clear none 18:00 20 0 6 356 (N) 442 clear none 19:00 21 0 19 16 (NNE) 551 clear none 20:00 22 0 16 29 (NNE) 546 clear none 21:00 21 0 9 5 (N) 561 clear none 22:00 22 -1 17 11 (N) 647 clear none 23:00 22 -7 11 358 (N) 913 clear none 00:00 22 -14 5 350 (N) 894 clear none 01:00 28 -10 18 11 (N) 460 clear none 02:00 29 -10 16 21 (NNE) 427 clear none 03:00 30 -8 21 32 (NNE) 206 clear none 04:00 32 -7 12 22 (NNE) 118 clear none 05:00 32 -6 12 28 (NNE) 65 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
