Middle of the night, after telescope cooled, DIS focus was around 275. The Echelle seemed to be slightly lower than usual tonight as well. I took new Echelle slit mask data and reduced but did not implement. Need to consult with Russet tomorrow about some questions on the wiki page. BIGGRID.DAT pointing model for NA2 03:11UT motion error (alt) during pointing model (halted axis at 03:13). Unfortunatley this occured 40 points into the pointing model. I aborted the model and then realized I could have probably just restarted the drives and skipped the star. I ran the telescope up and down in alt a few times to makes sure the error was cleared. Second run of BIGGRID.DAT, i forgot to put the R+ND2 filter in for the first 18 stars (it eventually had a star too bright to ID which flagged me to the problem). Lens Flare. Not sure what exactly I am looking for here. The stars/frames I inspected looked mostly normal and are listed below with slit frame numbers for Joe. Star Mag Slit image 20 Cet 4.77 46-63 11 beta Cas 2.27 64-90 HD 8356 6.9 91-100 I noticed that on a couple occasions the DIS slitviewer would loose the boresight and I would have to take another exposure to get it back. It simply wasn't there or displayed and centering objects wasn't possible without it. There didn't seem to be any pattern as to when it would loose the boresight in the slitviewer but another exposure always brought it back. DIS Throughput measurements (I took more than normal to do some quality checks when I reduce the data) G191B2B BD28 Feige 110 G191B2B Agile Collimation check (agile/collimation.0001.fits). Russet can analyze but doughnuts didn't look too bad to me. A second pointing model using BIGGRID2.DAT this time. Could not ID star 30, although it was easily visible in the guider, near center, and not exceptionally bright. Skipped this star. Some more Throughput data (now for stars that were too low earlier and same stars now at different airmasses) G191B2B Feige 34 Feige 66 Feige 67 Feige 34 G191B2B Pointing model with NA1 to end the night. All pointing model results emailed to necessary parties. Photometric and cloudless all night. Telescope left parked at 180,82 per Bill's request. NA2 instruments removed. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:03 dis-slit 142( 64) 15 56 9.8 12.0 11.3 12.1 9.9 -- 0.89 20:07 NA2gdr 2657(24657) 13 56 9.8 11.9 11.2 11.9 9.9 clear 0.70 20:21 NA2gdr -1494(28505) 7 57 9.8 11.6 10.9 11.5 9.7 R 0.89 00:24 dis-slit 275( 32) 329 54 9.6 8.8 9.4 8.8 8.9 -- 0.95 02:06 NA2gdr 403(30403) 150 65 8.7 8.1 8.6 7.8 7.8 R 0.93 04:51 dis-slit 338( 33) -149 65 9.6 7.7 8.3 7.6 7.7 -- 1.10 06:21 ECHELLE 357(-1002) 213 50 9.5 7.4 7.8 7.0 7.5 ND5 0.85 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 54 14 11 286 (WNW) 248 clear none 17:00 57 17 10 258 (WSW) 243 clear none 18:00 51 14 5 268 (W) 190 clear none 19:00 50 14 2 275 (W) 238 clear none 20:00 50 13 2 284 (WNW) 235 clear none 21:00 50 14 1 231 (SW) 163 clear none 22:00 48 14 6 137 (SE) 287 clear none 23:00 48 15 1 172 (S) 278 clear none 00:00 50 13 3 208 (SSW) 230 clear none 01:00 50 14 5 186 (S) 165 clear none 02:00 47 13 2 188 (S) 215 clear none 03:00 48 13 2 196 (SSW) 243 clear none 04:00 49 14 2 223 (SW) 204 clear none 05:00 49 14 2 222 (SW) 187 clear none 06:00 49 14 2 232 (SW) 213 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
