Pointing model performed (BIGGRID.DAT) and implemented Checked collimation with SPIcam, looked excellent. Checked echelle pointing, corrected. +400 adjustment in YTilt, 30 in XTilt Next checked DIS spectra focus vs. slitviewer focus DIS spectra data in engineering/dfocus.xxxxx.fits Star G191B2B X column 975 Image Slit Focus Slit Red Blue d0020 476 3.6 HeNe lamps on dfocus.0003 476 3.254 3.636 nominal focus dfocus.0004 501 2.449 3.338 min blue & red dfocus.0005 526 2.697 3.827 dfocus.0006 551 2.954 4.262 dfocus.0007 576 4.333 5.577 dfocus.0008 601 5.847 6.911 dfocus.0010 451 4.272 4.304 dfocus.0011 426 4.73 4.359 dfocus.0012 401 5.604 4.999 dfocus.0013 376 6.883 6.035 HeNe lamps off, 5s integration on star d0112 481 4.1 dtest.0014 481 3.404 4.212 dtest.0015 506 3.671 4.131 dtest.0016 456 4.479 4.381 dtest.0017 531 2.518 3.506 dtest.0018 556 3.637 4.751 d0147 495 5.1 Focus looks to be in good agreement between Slitviewer and instrument. Seeing was not very good (1.3-1.6 arc sec during these tests) Fastcam data taken at alt 60 deg and 0, 45, 90, and 180 wrt the wind. Wind gusts were around 34MPH so we got some good vibrations on the mirror when facing the wind. Started post FITS reduction for Bill on the fastcam data. 2 out of 4 sets completed. Not photometric so couldn't do throughput tonight. We had a glitch just before the start of the 2nd pointing model where the mirror sec and tert were not updating. Russet did something to fix it, but didn't say what. This occurred around 10:01 or so. From Russet log: 10:01:33 No refresh data for tcc keyVars: SecOrientAge, TertOrientAge I did second pointing model (BIGGRID2.dat) for Russet, which goes in the opposite direction from the one run earlier. Motion error too large error on Alt axis during pointing model run. 10:35:39 .tcc.0 0 tcc W AltStat=60.365083,-0.095700,4832995007.45000,0x00006001; BadAltStatus; AltDTime=-0.1 I skipped that data point in the pointing model. It slewed to next star but couldn't ID it, even though it was there. Maybe star too bright? Skipped that one too. No problem afterwards. 2nd Pointing model looked good and was implemented. No mirror cover problems tonight. All engineering tasks completed except throughput due to non-photometric skies (Cirrus and a cloud bank parked to our East) 2nd half. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:36 SPICAM 477( 58) 1 58 1.6 2.4 2.0 2.0 1.5 R 0.90 19:48 NA2gdr -1913(28086) -4 58 2.0 2.3 2.0 2.0 1.8 R 1.30 00:21 dis-slit 476( -163) 213 64 1.4 1.1 1.5 1.2 1.3 -- 1.10 02:11 FASTCAM 520( 422) 104 70 0.6 0.1 0.5 -0.0 -0.1 -- 1.36 04:16 GUIDER 378( -140) 32 64 0.6 0.6 1.0 0.7 0.6 R+ND2 1.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 37 16 8 358 (N) 213 mstly clr none 17:00 35 16 10 3 (N) 171 mstly clr none 18:00 35 14 17 9 (N) 100 ptly cldy none 19:00 38 9 12 356 (N) 94 ptly cldy none 20:00 37 16 8 354 (N) 127 ptly cldy none 21:00 36 16 7 20 (NNE) 121 ptly cldy none 22:00 34 18 22 340 (NNW) 160 ptly cldy none 23:00 35 17 20 340 (NNW) 172 ptly cldy none 00:00 34 18 20 305 (NW) 341 mstly clr none 01:00 33 17 14 343 (NNW) 249 mstly clr none 02:00 34 14 24 332 (NNW) 120 mstly clr none 03:00 34 14 13 289 (WNW) 77 mstly clr none 04:00 34 14 19 331 (NNW) 82 mstly clr none 05:00 33 16 22 344 (NNW) 146 mstly clr none 06:00 34 15 17 336 (NNW) 185 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
