The instrument worked well, but the enclosure motors failed at 11:33 UT, a few minutes into an image. I'm not sure of the reason for the failure; there had been a power flicker at 11:14 UT with no effect, but I didn't notice any problems immediately before the enclosure stopped tracking. Telescope and dome were not visibly out of alignment, but we were in a part of the sky where azimuth tracking was extremely slow, so possibly the enclosure really did stop at 11:14 and it simply didn't trigger the telescope to stop tracking until later. Once the problem was noticed, it only took a couple of minutes to fix. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW12 D T/H 05:30 05:37 Encl stopped tracking ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:49 dis-slit 195( 236) 86 69 13.9 14.6 15.0 14.6 14.1 - 1.05 02:13 dis-slit 300( 279) 135 48 13.5 13.0 13.5 12.7 13.0 - 1.10 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 64 34 5 256 (WSW) 955 mstly cldy rain 17:00 54 36 8 57 (ENE) 594 mstly cldy none 18:00 59 33 6 103 (ESE) 750 ptly cldy none 19:00 58 32 6 105 (ESE) 748 ptly cldy none 20:00 58 33 3 111 (ESE) 751 ptly cldy none 21:00 57 32 5 96 (E) 636 ptly cldy none 22:00 58 31 11 135 (SE) 786 mstly clr none 23:00 56 32 7 135 (SE) 952 clear none 00:00 57 32 2 134 (SE) 989 clear none 01:00 56 32 1 175 (S) 965 clear none 02:00 57 32 2 188 (S) 837 clear none 03:00 57 31 1 135 (SE) 864 clear none 04:00 57 31 7 61 (ENE) 749 clear none 05:00 57 30 7 86 (E) 704 clear none 06:00 57 30 8 85 (E) 656 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
