I noticed poor tracking and found DIS not at the NA2 alignment marks when I took it off to put TSPEC on. I set the alignment tape marks correct and then used that as my zero refeerence point to set the position of the rotator. It appeared to be about 1.2 deg off from zero, using the value given from the talk2boxes status line. NA2 rotator should be zero'ed with a level tommorow, by day staff, before GFP gets mounted. We will probably be doing instrument blocks so a zero'ed rotator is probably good to have. Email sent to Bill K. 08:00:51UT Alt drive had error, motion too large, and halted drive. Altitude was about 64 deg when error occured. I did an alt dump at 08:06:15UT while I slewed the telescope to clear the error. Again the smell of smoke from the fires in AZ. Dust levels were not as elevated tonight as they were last night. 1.0um counts peaked around 2400. I left TSPEC on NA2 but not engaged. It just needs to be pushed off rotator. My observer had morning cals to do and the GFP folks parked part of their instrument out of the way for DIS/TSPEC for tonight, but in the way of moving things back. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:22 APOLLO 350( 1335) -15 57 17.0 19.3 18.0 18.1 17.9 -- 1.50 21:35 dis-slit 75( 259) 165 71 16.9 17.3 16.6 16.2 16.2 -- 1.10 23:22 TSPEC 126( 454) 214 65 16.8 16.2 16.4 15.2 15.9 Ks 0.90 02:39 TSPEC 162( 477) 343 32 14.9 15.1 15.2 14.5 14.7 Ks 1.70 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 73 29 13 234 (SW) 496 clear none 17:00 68 28 13 259 (W) 401 clear none 18:00 70 25 16 264 (W) 413 clear none 19:00 67 24 8 250 (WSW) 531 clear none 20:00 63 20 13 269 (W) 719 clear none 21:00 62 19 10 263 (W) 787 clear none 22:00 63 18 9 257 (WSW) 708 clear none 23:00 62 18 8 261 (W) 687 clear none 00:00 62 18 9 262 (W) 682 clear none 01:00 61 18 12 229 (SW) 761 clear none 02:00 60 17 10 266 (W) 1091 clear none 03:00 59 16 9 264 (W) 1784 clear none 04:00 58 15 7 240 (WSW) 1974 clear none 05:00 57 14 6 265 (W) 1743 clear none 06:00 57 14 8 259 (W) 1449 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
