Alt Motion Error: Tonight we witnessed stars streaming by on the TSPEC guider at UT 03:31, but with no motion error message. Only when I tried to slew to a different field at UT 03:39 did we finally get a Motion Error on the Alt drive. Over 10 minutes were eaten up to clearing the failure and if he had had an exposure running at the time of the failure it would have been lost as well. Didn't occur again but little observing was done the rest of the evening. Apollo could not observe through the clouds during their time, but also the interlock switch in the control room was not operational. Perhaps from recent UPS work? We were open all night, but little actual data was taken due to the clouds. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:08 TSPEC 300( 871) 181 53 18.8 20.6 19.8 19.5 19.1 1.01 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 77 33 17 218 (SW) 1852 clear none 17:00 76 32 28 239 (WSW) 1331 clear none 18:00 71 28 23 251 (WSW) 2505 clear none 19:00 69 25 25 263 (W) 2498 clear none 20:00 68 24 23 266 (W) 3595 clear dust 21:00 66 20 16 262 (W) 3211 clear none 22:00 65 19 18 253 (WSW) 2639 clear none 23:00 64 18 23 258 (WSW) 1685 clear none 00:00 63 18 23 270 (W) 1152 mstly cldy none 01:00 61 19 19 262 (W) 975 mstly cldy none 02:00 60 19 15 268 (W) 950 mstly cldy none 03:00 60 19 17 276 (W) 850 mstly cldy none 04:00 59 18 18 272 (W) 938 mstly cldy none 05:00 58 18 16 278 (W) 988 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
