Wind was a big problem during the first half. At 2055MT a direction restriction was imposed on observations. The telescope was able to track well with its back to the wind. Closed for dust spike at 0130MT, dust subsided at 0300MT but thick clouds moved in. Opened late in second half. Clouds forming to the west of site subsided enough science. Seeing was highly variable and terrible after opening. After closing vacuum pump was turned on and pumping down vacuum line to ECHELLE. Camera valve was NOT opened. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:44 TSPEC 357( 543) 239 48 12.4 13.6 13.0 12.7 12.8 -- 1.09 20:47 TSPEC 279( 411) 237 38 12.0 12.2 12.3 11.8 11.9 -- 1.39 01:03 APOLLO 179( 659) 17 35 8.8 9.0 9.2 8.6 8.7 -- 2.50 04:29 dis-slit 250( -173) 13 60 6.8 7.6 7.6 6.9 6.9 -- 4.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 58 17 15 240 (WSW) 3818 clear none 17:00 61 18 31 261 (W) 4216 clear none 18:00 59 17 40 257 (WSW) 4886 clear none 19:00 57 14 27 264 (W) 2979 clear none 20:00 54 11 27 258 (WSW) 2962 clear none 21:00 53 11 29 264 (W) 3307 clear none 22:00 52 10 29 261 (W) 2491 ptly cldy none 23:00 50 11 32 270 (W) 2953 ptly cldy none 00:00 50 12 23 267 (W) 3152 ptly cldy none 01:00 48 14 20 273 (W) 5405 mstly clr dust 02:00 47 16 26 271 (W) 17076 ptly cldy dust 03:00 46 17 27 269 (W) 7662 cloudy dust 04:00 45 19 16 257 (WSW) 3496 cloudy none 05:00 44 21 19 265 (W) 2988 mstly clr none 06:00 43 22 17 273 (W) 3043 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
