Winds were sometimes over 30 mph and I closed for a short while after midnight when dust crept up over the limit, but soon it crept back down; there was no full-on dust storms. APOLLO had good success during the first run, with moderate seeing and enough time to adjust receiver optics and get some good signal. Near midnight the seeing got much worse, and the moon was also closer to the wind direction, so the second APOLLO run had a more limited success, but the time baseline should still be useful. The échelle observations ended a little early so I had time to check collimation, which looked fine. The echelle and ecam worked perfectly, but the Triplespec slit refused to move from the most-popular 1.1" slit to the 1.5" slit preferred by tonight's observers. Fortunately the 1.1" slit was acceptable although not ideal, so this didn't cost any observations. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:36 APOLLO 400( 942) 62 54 9.3 10.8 10.0 9.9 9.8 5300 1.80 21:17 ECHELLE 193(-1136) 119 73 8.3 8.7 8.7 8.1 8.2 Clear 1.00 01:20 TSPEC 237( 23) 168 63 5.5 5.8 6.0 5.4 5.5 Ks 2.08 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 54 12 21 264 (W) 1125 clear none 17:00 54 11 26 254 (WSW) 2026 clear none 18:00 55 11 24 267 (W) 1671 clear none 19:00 51 6 23 255 (WSW) 1952 clear none 20:00 48 6 27 263 (W) 2455 clear none 21:00 47 8 21 257 (WSW) 1993 clear none 22:00 46 8 13 272 (W) 2495 clear none 23:00 45 5 23 280 (W) 3073 clear none 00:00 44 6 18 255 (WSW) 4944 clear dust 01:00 43 7 25 264 (W) 5084 clear none 02:00 42 8 10 264 (W) 2934 clear none 03:00 41 9 16 246 (WSW) 2833 clear none 04:00 39 11 13 273 (W) 2854 clear none 05:00 38 11 23 270 (W) 2592 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
