DIS blue ion pump LEDs were down from this morning (1 LED above tape) at evening checkout. We started with twilight vs. collimation tests with the S-H. The data showed severe pincushing and was very difficult to reduce. We then switched to SPIcam to look at collimation (in/out focus 1000 um) and saw what appeard to be sperical abberation (what looked like tube currents). The telescope was not in thermal equilibrium, since we just opened and started cooling. We decided to go on to other engineering tests and re-investigate later once the telescope was cooled properly. Next we did some 3x40 point back to back pointing models to investigate the effects of translation of the secondary on the pointing models. Next we took another out of focus spicam image (now 4+ hrs had past since we opened and the telescope was at thermal equilibrium). The out of focus images looked much better so we switched back to S-H to get more collimation data and correct telescope collimation. The Shack-Hartman images showed the pincushining now gone from the raw images. Russet was now able to reduce the images and the collimation looked fine. We then adjusted the S-H rotation. Handed the telescope over to the second half program. Jeff said he would take care of focusing the telescope, since he would actually be using it out of focus for his program. DIS blue ion pum LEDs again above tape strip (10 LEDs lit this morning). Temp -99.0 on the controller, -86.7C reported in the TUI instrument status (but this was an older reading, refreshed and then they read -99.0C). ------------- FAILURE LOG -------------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:13 SHACK 150( 1103) 28 53 9.9 14.1 13.4 13.3 12.4 -- 1.30 20:19 SHACK 300( 1235) 26 53 9.9 13.7 12.6 12.6 11.7 -- 1.30 20:22 SHACK 275( 1197) 24 54 9.8 13.5 11.8 12.2 11.2 -- 1.30 20:23 SHACK 275( 1197) 24 54 9.8 13.4 11.7 12.1 11.1 -- 1.30 20:26 SHACK 250( 1162) 23 54 9.9 13.3 11.6 11.9 11.0 -- 1.30 20:29 SHACK 250( 1155) 22 54 9.6 13.1 11.5 11.7 10.8 -- 1.30 20:32 SHACK 275( 1164) 20 55 9.8 12.8 11.4 11.5 10.7 -- 1.30 20:35 SHACK 275( 1159) 19 55 9.8 12.6 11.2 11.4 10.6 -- 1.30 20:38 SHACK 275( 1154) 18 55 9.6 12.5 11.1 11.3 10.5 -- 1.30 20:42 SHACK 175( 1040) 16 55 9.6 12.4 11.0 11.2 10.4 -- 1.30 20:47 SHACK 175( 1031) 14 55 9.5 12.1 10.9 11.0 10.2 -- 1.30 20:50 SHACK 150( 994) 13 56 9.6 11.9 10.8 10.8 10.1 -- 1.30 20:51 SHACK 150( 994) 12 56 9.6 11.9 10.8 10.8 10.1 -- 1.30 20:54 SHACK 150( 986) 11 56 9.5 11.8 10.8 10.8 10.1 -- 1.30 20:56 SHACK 100( 930) 10 56 9.4 11.7 10.7 10.7 10.0 -- 1.30 21:01 SHACK 100( 923) 8 56 9.6 11.5 10.6 10.6 9.9 -- 1.30 21:10 SHACK 100( 908) 4 56 9.4 11.2 10.4 10.3 9.8 -- 1.30 21:12 SHACK 250( 1052) 3 56 9.4 11.1 10.3 10.2 9.7 -- 1.30 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:00 58 39 9 69 (ENE) 464 clear none 19:00 54 40 9 75 (ENE) 475 clear none 20:00 50 38 16 63 (ENE) 474 clear none 21:00 49 38 15 61 (ENE) 483 clear none 22:00 47 37 22 68 (ENE) 553 clear none 23:00 47 32 21 75 (ENE) 512 clear none 00:00 47 32 19 76 (ENE) 610 clear none 01:00 47 34 17 77 (ENE) 622 clear none 02:00 47 31 15 71 (ENE) 580 clear none 03:00 46 34 13 68 (ENE) 655 clear none 04:00 50 22 4 356 (N) 407 clear none 05:00 50 7 6 347 (NNW) 188 clear none 06:00 49 12 5 18 (NNE) 187 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
