Clouds continued to come and go during first half, causing occasional guiding problems but not really preventing observations. Second half the clouds went away, and seeing was subarcsecond at least part of the time, but the observer was working defocused so I couldn't track the seeing. A tracking slip of two arcminutes, apparently due to a suicidal moth on the azimuth drive disk, cost a few minutes of recovery time. Later, when the target went through transit near 85 degrees, tracking was poor again, but this was the known issue at high altitude which we are continuing to investigate. The observer was ready to cope with this expected situation and was able to work through it. ------------- FAILURE LOG -------------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- NM02 S T/H 01:13 01:23 tracked over moth ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:57 dis-slit 41( 585) 264 44 17.4 18.8 18.2 18.1 18.0 - 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 68 53 11 203 (SSW) 657 ptly cldy none 17:00 68 52 4 229 (SW) 686 mstly cldy none 18:00 66 51 10 221 (SW) 615 mstly cldy none 19:00 64 51 4 216 (SW) 752 ptly cldy none 20:00 63 51 7 186 (S) 763 ptly cldy none 21:00 63 52 6 182 (S) 740 ptly cldy none 22:00 63 50 7 175 (S) 701 mstly clr none 23:00 63 49 11 145 (SE) 760 mstly clr none 00:00 62 52 13 146 (SE) 840 clear none 01:00 62 52 13 145 (SE) 1002 clear none 02:00 60 52 5 117 (ESE) 1141 clear none 03:00 60 52 10 139 (SE) 1001 clear none 04:00 59 52 9 183 (S) 946 clear none 05:00 61 51 9 198 (SSW) 855 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
