We opened the dome at 23:00 when conditions improved, but then some thick localized clouds moved in so we couldn't start taking data until nearly an hour later. Variable clouds and varying seeing continued to challenge us for several hours. I didn't log a proper focus for the echelle because of the difficulty of working through the clouds; seeing varied between about 1-2 arcseconds. During second half, the seeing was generally better with just a few small waves of clouds. The telescope and instruments worked well. The DIS grating motors are working normally again and checked out fine this evening. Training of a new assistant observing specialist, Nick Ule, got started tonight, so the combination of bad weather and usable weather was actually favorable for that purpose.
