Spicam needed some attention to get it taking to the hub again and the mirror covers needed to be reset (expected). Clouds and the threat of rain kept us closed at the start of the night. During instrument checkout spicam icc seemed to be dead. I tried restarting the spicam icc (spicc start), it tried starting the process and then said spicam icc is not running and failed. Since spicam was not critical for tonights observations I will leave this for the daystaff to diagnose and fix. Drive ringing at UT05:51 (Alt/az: 68.8/63.1) I think the azimuth drive Drives seemed to have a low level ring in the eastern part of the sky (68-90 deg az). Ringing was in Azimuth. It would start after tracking for a min or so and then persist for a while, sometimes going away, sometimes not. Ringing was not very loud but could be heard on speaker. I took another pointing model tonight, per Bill's day log. Low level ringing heard at multiple drive locations around azimuth during tonights pointing model. UT16:63 Motion error too large in azimuth (az 236.4). axis init fixed. Checked and adjusted Echelle pointing. Minor change in settings. I moved it back between exposure sets and some places the drift was larger than in others. I finished with a little less than an hour left before twilight so I called it a night a little early. I heard a lot more low level drive ringing tonight than the past couple of nights. It also occured azimuths in no particular direction tonight. ------------- FAILURE LOG -------------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 23:56 NA2gdr 702(30702) 67 64 12.1 13.2 13.7 12.5 12.4 R+ND2 1.70 01:45 ECHELLE -104( -607) -3 65 12.4 12.2 12.6 11.6 12.1 ND2 1.00 02:22 SHACK -204( 796) 179 54 12.0 12.0 12.4 11.5 11.9 -- 1.30 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:00 56 40 21 66 (ENE) 1045 cloudy none 19:00 56 38 18 69 (ENE) 979 cloudy none 20:00 57 36 14 111 (ESE) 959 cloudy none 21:00 58 40 15 151 (SSE) 1112 cloudy none 22:00 57 41 15 97 (E) 1178 mstly cldy none 23:00 55 42 15 96 (E) 1198 ptly cldy none 00:00 54 44 11 96 (E) 1236 mstly clr none 01:00 54 43 8 88 (E) 1299 mstly clr none 02:00 55 41 5 68 (ENE) 1290 mstly clr none 03:00 53 40 0 252 (WSW) 1271 mstly clr none 04:00 53 41 11 81 (E) 1199 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
