Huehnerhoff Clouds at the start of evening, disipating after twilight. At 03:11MT after a focus run, with the telescope in tracking, I noticed an oscillation of about 2" in the azimuth current telemetry. When I turned on the intercom I could hear the drives humming. It occurred again at 03:14 but when it occurred this time it was changed from a fast oscillation to a slow and back to a fast. This occurred at and alt/az of 53/-76.5. Stopped shortly after. No noticable affect on imaging, but seeing was bad at the time. The same oscillation occurred at the same alt/az at 0500MT. I checked the az drive surface and all adjacent areas to make sure nothing was binding, nothing was found. After restarting drives the oscillation came back, while it was oscillating I physically checked the az drives for any obvious problems and found nothing. While oscillating was occurring the whole az ring and mount was shaking noticeably. The observer was not able to observer their target at this position due to this problem. Could not find a PR with similar problem so PR1118 was submitted. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:03 dis-slit 85( 351) 121 61 9.6 13.4 11.1 11.8 13.2 clear 1.37 01:15 dis-slit 107( 73) -78 55 7.7 7.3 7.5 6.6 7.1 clear 1.11 03:09 dis-slit 134( 84) -74 55 7.8 7.0 7.3 6.3 7.0 clear 1.54 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 59 19 9 189 (S) 784 ptly cldy none 17:00 63 21 12 258 (WSW) 787 ptly cldy none 18:00 56 18 3 238 (WSW) 821 mstly clr none 19:00 54 20 7 213 (SSW) 752 mstly clr none 20:00 49 18 5 250 (WSW) 873 clear none 21:00 50 18 5 262 (W) 950 clear none 22:00 50 20 2 242 (WSW) 1028 clear none 23:00 48 25 12 132 (SE) 1023 clear none 00:00 46 32 8 125 (SE) 977 clear none 01:00 46 34 18 126 (SE) 951 clear none 02:00 46 32 14 120 (ESE) 975 clear none 03:00 45 32 15 127 (SE) 856 clear none 04:00 47 30 15 130 (SE) 910 clear none 05:00 46 30 14 140 (SE) 829 clear none 06:00 46 30 15 127 (SE) 881 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
