A few holes in the clouds took us for suckers, but eventually thinner high clouds lasted longer and I opened the dome. Seeing was quite bad at first, probably because I had not been running the fans before opening due to uncertain humidity. As the telescope cooled, the seeing improved to about 1 arcsec even as the clouds were getting thicker again. When we lost guiding and I judged the clouds would be sticking around, we closed. The observer said his data would be useful despite the clouds. DIS was on the instrument pump, but it couldn't keep running while the dome was open; after we closed, it took me about an hour to get the pump going again. Second half there was another sucker hole that I almost fell for, but I kept waiting for one more cloudcam image and it kept not improving the way I thought it would, until finally we had overcast skies and humidity over the limit. It stayed that way for the remainder of the night, but we didn't see any snow... yet. Triplespec is functional again and taking spectra. When I parked the telescope, I got altitude overcurrent messages on two slews; I left the telescope parked in azimuth but not in altitude until the reason for the overcurrents can be figured out. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 21:19 NICFPS 250( 375) -15 53 -3.8 -1.8 -0.7 -2.6 -2.7 J 1.60 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 31 19 15 267 (W) 309 mstly cldy none 17:00 28 19 28 275 (W) 488 mstly cldy none 18:00 28 20 18 265 (W) 362 mstly cldy none 19:00 26 20 20 253 (WSW) 411 mstly cldy none 20:00 26 18 18 261 (W) 432 ptly cldy none 21:00 25 17 18 268 (W) 331 ptly cldy none 22:00 25 16 14 266 (W) 349 mstly cldy none 23:00 25 18 18 266 (W) 511 mstly cldy none 00:00 25 20 20 273 (W) 857 mstly cldy none 01:00 24 19 12 261 (W) 826 mstly cldy none 02:00 24 21 19 269 (W) 1272 ptly cldy none 03:00 24 20 21 265 (W) 723 cloudy humid 04:00 22 20 15 274 (W) 732 cloudy humid 05:00 23 21 15 264 (W) 739 cloudy humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
