Moving away from Alt ~80 degrees, telescope slewed almost down to 30 degrees then suddenly gave a Motion error too large and the Alt axis let go (as if an E-stop was hit) and free slewed of its own accord up to zenith and hit the Max position limit. I've never seen this happen mid-slew before. I physically moved it off 90, init-ed axes (only the Alt axis disengaged) and tried another slew. Got the Motion error again but since it was already up high it did not slew up to Max position limit again. Init-ed axes again and this slew worked fine. All others the rest of the evening were fine as well. We had clouds and local radar returns at the beginning of the night and could not open until 20:00. With the build up of snow onsite we had lower wind restrictions (gusts 20 mph and 40 mph gusts with periods of high humidity. The wind has moved snow drifts around the site to cover over the nice clean sidewalks day crew spend yesterday clearing. Dome left pointed North as per Bill's request. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 20:10 dis-slit 74( -480) 102 57 -4.9 -3.3 -3.8 -4.8 -4.4 1.77 22:34 dis-slit 156( -540) 27 77 -6.0 -6.0 -5.8 -6.4 -6.2 1.51 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 26 16 2 283 (WNW) 264 cloudy none 17:00 26 15 22 345 (NNW) 231 cloudy none 18:00 24 14 9 309 (NW) 224 cloudy none 19:00 24 14 6 351 (N) 184 cloudy none 20:00 23 13 11 331 (NNW) 228 mstly clr none 21:00 22 15 17 345 (NNW) 232 mstly clr none 22:00 21 16 15 7 (N) 214 mstly clr none 23:00 21 15 27 10 (N) 339 mstly clr humid 00:00 21 13 20 1 (N) 296 mstly clr humid 01:00 20 15 22 350 (N) 341 mstly clr humid 02:00 20 12 21 13 (NNE) 634 mstly clr none 03:00 24 5 19 15 (NNE) 584 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
