It appeared to be an accumulation of drive error and slewing the telescope cleared the problem. Tracking was much improved afterwards. Clouds were too thick after about 21:50 for much useful IR observations. My 1st half observers gave up at 23:00 and I switched to the next program which could work under these conditions. Skies improved after midnight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:52 TSPEC 284( 882) 112 68 4.4 7.1 5.6 6.1 5.7 Ks 1.10 23:17 ECHELLE 92( -655) 125 66 5.2 5.1 5.2 4.9 5.0 ND3 0.78 00:08 TSPEC 80( 562) 141 75 5.0 4.8 5.0 4.2 4.6 Ks 0.90 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 48 12 12 248 (WSW) 486 clear none 17:00 41 15 8 244 (WSW) 830 mstly clr none 18:00 41 17 12 236 (SW) 1252 mstly clr none 19:00 41 15 12 217 (SW) 1332 ptly cldy none 20:00 41 14 12 245 (WSW) 939 ptly cldy none 21:00 42 14 12 254 (WSW) 699 ptly cldy none 22:00 43 14 16 250 (WSW) 739 mstly cldy none 23:00 42 15 16 247 (WSW) 810 cloudy none 00:00 41 16 15 262 (W) 1050 ptly cldy none 01:00 41 17 16 256 (WSW) 997 ptly cldy none 02:00 40 17 18 242 (WSW) 1022 mstly clr none 03:00 41 16 18 270 (W) 885 mstly clr none 04:00 40 16 16 266 (W) 742 mstly clr none 05:00 39 15 18 253 (WSW) 639 mstly clr none 06:00 39 15 18 250 (WSW) 554 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
