McMillan Another snowy night. I ran the snow program most of the night. I checked to see if tertiary rotation slips could have been responsible for some oddities in pointing models taken a month ago, but the logs show the tertiary was very stable, so the event on Tuesday night was apparently rare. I also ran some tests of behavior of the primary mirror support system at high altitudes; I found that currently it starts to misbehave shortly above 85 deg, but as long as the telescope doesn't go all the way to the zenith the mirror recovers nicely and should behave consistently on later, lower slews. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 28 27 8 211 (SSW) 3201 cloudy snow 17:00 24 24 7 235 (SW) 1406 cloudy snow 18:00 25 23 11 269 (W) 368 cloudy snow 19:00 23 21 8 238 (WSW) 296 cloudy snow 20:00 23 20 8 257 (WSW) 348 cloudy snow 21:00 21 19 2 248 (WSW) 379 cloudy snow 22:00 22 19 8 274 (W) 358 cloudy snow 23:00 21 19 13 301 (WNW) 1293 cloudy snow 00:00 20 17 13 322 (NW) 1324 cloudy snow 01:00 20 18 6 346 (NNW) 849 cloudy snow 02:00 20 17 10 4 (N) 404 cloudy snow 03:00 21 18 12 1 (N) 66 cloudy snow 04:00 21 18 12 36 (NE) 113 cloudy lt snow 05:00 20 17 16 2 (N) 197 mstly cldy lt snow 06:00 20 18 27 25 (NNE) 172 mstly cldy lt snow Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
