McMillan Thick clouds early in the night, snow and high humidity from 22:15 onward. We had accumulation of about 3 inches by morning. I ran the roof heaters until nearly 4 am when the temperature dropped below -1 C. After some work on the APOLLO laser optics, I ran the snow program for most of the night. I also checked out the results of an in-dome pointing model taken a few nights ago by Joe; it showed no systematic sag of the tertiary mirror so far as the encoders can detect. SPIcam is running about 10-15 deg warmer than normal, but appears stable; the ion gauge reports low current. The telescope refused to slew starting around 05:15 am with the error message "Motor output disabled" on azimuth. This wasn't a collision; I was able to get everything going again with just an axis init. I also investigated a strange pointing jump during the APOLLO observations last night, and found that the tertiary rotation had shifted for unknown reasons. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 38 18 17 142 (SE) 82 cloudy none 17:00 37 16 19 126 (SE) 106 cloudy none 18:00 36 17 22 135 (SE) 195 cloudy none 19:00 35 18 28 126 (SE) 385 cloudy none 20:00 35 19 17 134 (SE) 324 cloudy none 21:00 35 19 16 127 (SE) 303 cloudy none 22:00 34 19 12 117 (ESE) 337 cloudy lt snow 23:00 29 27 20 112 (ESE) 864 cloudy snow 00:00 29 27 10 112 (ESE) 662 cloudy snow 01:00 30 30 22 125 (SE) 238 cloudy snow 02:00 31 30 17 103 (ESE) 123 cloudy snow 03:00 31 29 14 113 (ESE) 12 cloudy snow 04:00 30 29 12 109 (ESE) 12 cloudy snow 05:00 30 29 7 109 (ESE) 15 cloudy snow 06:00 28 28 1 148 (SSE) 722 cloudy snow Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
