It wasn't quite as good AT sunset, with a storm heading our way and patchy clouds moving unpredictably. The observers managed to get a spectrum of one object in twilight, not scientifically useful but good for training purposes. After we closed, there was thunder and lightning and later some rain. With the clouds moving through I didn't get a solid focus or seeing estimate. Second half we opened for another hole between storms, and this time conditions stayed usable, although still not wonderful, with poor seeing and occasional clouds moving through. The observer got good data on a bright backup target and questionable-but-maybe-usable data on a primary science target. Everything worked reasonably well despite a few mistakes due to my being out of practice. There was one case of an image jump which we puzzled over for a while -- it was a small jump of about 1 arcsec, but the guider didn't get a chance to correct it because a nod offset came shortly after. We couldn't completely rule out the nod offset itself or observer error as the cause of the jump, so we'll just have to watch out for possible repeats without complicating circumstances. ------------- ACTIVITY LOG -------------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 03:12 TSPEC 250( 917) 183 55 14.3 15.4 15.8 14.5 14.4 Ks 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 67 57 6 201 (SSW) 537 ptly cldy none 17:00 67 56 9 211 (SSW) 540 ptly cldy none 18:00 66 54 6 282 (WNW) 523 ptly cldy none 19:00 64 52 6 271 (W) 485 ptly cldy none 20:00 61 53 2 270 (W) 469 mstly cldy none 21:00 60 51 3 331 (NNW) 451 cloudy none 22:00 60 50 1 253 (WSW) 436 cloudy none 23:00 58 50 12 53 (NE) 677 cloudy rain 00:00 56 50 15 57 (ENE) 542 cloudy rain 01:00 59 44 12 46 (NE) 449 mstly cldy none 02:00 54 50 4 356 (N) 423 mstly cldy none 03:00 58 46 7 9 (N) 436 ptly cldy none 04:00 57 48 9 5 (N) 463 ptly cldy none 05:00 57 47 16 26 (NNE) 347 ptly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
