Coughlin On checkout, during test slews around 18:15, the NA2 rotator showed a servo error and would not move. Further inspection revealed all communications were fine, and pointed to a hardware problem. After over an hour of troubleshooting, it was discovered the day crew had inadvertently unplugged a shorting cable while working on Agile, which when reconnected restored power and solved the problem at 19:30. The first half observer had extensive dome cals to take, and had logged on early to do so, but due to the delay he was not able to finish, and thus we were not able to open, until 21:45. Since he was technically able to perform observations by the start of observing time though, I did not count this as time lost. Had a few minor clouds pass through first half, then great skies the rest of the night with typically 1" seeing. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 21:55 SPICAM 10( 712) 275 63 14.4 17.3 15.1 15.8 14.8 1.00 00:10 SPICAM -54( 542) 258 35 14.1 14.4 14.0 12.9 13.6 1.20 01:20 TSPEC 47( 619) 320 53 13.4 13.5 13.4 12.3 12.8 1.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 65 33 13 217 (SW) 1223 ptly cldy none 17:00 61 31 6 298 (WNW) 1186 ptly cldy none 18:00 66 32 10 251 (WSW) 1278 ptly cldy none 19:00 62 31 12 267 (W) 1306 ptly cldy none 20:00 57 32 11 17 (NNE) 1303 mstly clr none 21:00 56 29 11 27 (NNE) 2436 mstly clr none 22:00 58 29 1 243 (WSW) 1719 mstly clr none 23:00 58 31 3 209 (SSW) 1613 mstly clr none 00:00 58 32 3 214 (SW) 1503 clear none 01:00 56 33 4 135 (SE) 1434 clear none 02:00 51 35 13 80 (E) 1250 clear none 03:00 49 40 14 79 (E) 1167 clear none 04:00 47 41 14 79 (E) 1277 clear none 05:00 53 34 8 183 (S) 1289 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
