Coughlin First half observer set-up early to get dis cals with Hg lamp. The night started off partly cloudy, with clouds thickening as the night went on. There was no threat of weather so we were open all night. The first half observer had bright targets and was able to obtain data for part of 1st half. We estimated a loss of science time of approximately 2 hours due to clouds. At 11:38pm the telescope suddenly stopped tracking and axes halted. The following error was prominent: 05:38:00 .tcc.0 0 tcc F Modu="axe_i_SchMove"; Text="tracking failed and axes could not be halted; PLEASE DISABLE THE TELESCOPE!" I hit a stop button and had the observer read out his exposure. I opened a phone line to the observing level and tried re-engaging motors but there was no sign of motor power. I re-enabled a stop button and checked the intermediate level to find there was a dome-telescope collision. I manually moved the telescope off the stop switches, reset the stop buttons, and motor power was then able to re-engage. I re-intialized axes and did a couple test slews; dataq and slews appeared normal. I then handed control back to the observer, and everything including pointing was normal, so observations resumed at 11:51pm, and only 13 minutes were lost. I've copied the revelent part of the status log below. The following message appears about 10 times in the 5 seconds before the telescope halted, with the first instance and inidication of error at 05:37:54. No techincal problems, but we estimated that 75% of the data was useless due to the clouds and the observers' faint targets.
