We closed for a few hours due to high winds. The tower dust counter was not working properly; the dome dust counter reported that levels were elevated but acceptable when we re-opened. I managed to clear up a few minor mysteries tonight, with help from Bill Ketzeback. We found that weather information had not been getting to the TCC, causing the strange focus behavior over the past couple of weeks. I confirmed that the echelle headers are written correctly based on lamp state, except on occasions when a separate problem prevents the lamp state from being reported correctly. And a brighter-than-background bar at the edge of spicam subframes was found to be not a problem. ------------- ACTIVITY LOG -------------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 02:50 dis-slit -150( -285) 76 70 3.9 5.4 5.7 4.7 4.2 - 2.30 04:00 dis-slit -89( -288) 123 69 3.4 4.1 4.3 3.4 3.4 - 2.80 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 51 22 15 261 (W) 0 clear none 17:00 52 24 22 238 (WSW) 1 clear none 18:00 53 21 20 262 (W) 6 clear none 19:00 50 17 26 225 (SW) 0 clear none 20:00 48 17 19 244 (WSW) 2 clear none 21:00 46 19 18 214 (SW) 0 clear none 22:00 45 18 26 193 (SSW) 4 clear none 23:00 45 15 35 207 (SSW) 21 clear none 00:00 44 13 30 204 (SSW) 13 clear none 01:00 42 14 26 210 (SSW) 17 clear none 02:00 40 15 31 220 (SW) 24 clear none 03:00 39 14 33 210 (SSW) 187 clear none 04:00 38 13 21 196 (SSW) 233 clear none 05:00 38 12 20 202 (SSW) 175 clear none 06:00 37 12 28 234 (SW) 601 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
