This choice arose partly from some delays in getting Agile initiated for lamp calibrations (the work was done by Anjum so I don't know all the details), but it was also based on the scientific needs of the program, so I decided to list the time as used. The night was variably cloudy but mostly usable, with good seeing whenever we checked it; since the first-half observer was working deliberately out of focus and the second-half observer was putting targets on a slit, only a few spot-checks were possible. Pointing was good with Agile (I made an adjustment of -50 in Xtilt and +50 in Ytilt which is barely meaningful) and perfect with the echelle. When the Agile target went through a high northern transit, some tracking drift was noticeable despite constant guiding. Again, it was a little difficult to assess because of the defocus, but it did seem that we got several arcseconds of drift in the course of about an hour following transit (the hour before transit was mostly taken up with cloud struggles). I compensated by using the Nudger to keep the target in position, which seemed to work well enough. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:50 AGILE -300( -625) 132 54 7.0 7.4 7.1 6.8 6.6 I 0.90 00:24 ECHELLE -186(-1016) 159 66 6.4 5.5 5.8 5.1 5.5 ND2 1.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 50 4 17 265 (W) 696 mstly clr none 17:00 48 5 11 270 (W) 739 mstly clr none 18:00 44 5 14 250 (WSW) 809 mstly clr none 19:00 44 6 11 237 (WSW) 1237 ptly cldy none 20:00 44 6 14 260 (W) 1304 ptly cldy none 21:00 44 7 15 230 (SW) 1602 ptly cldy none 22:00 44 3 17 231 (SW) 1122 ptly cldy none 23:00 44 2 22 247 (WSW) 577 ptly cldy none 00:00 44 -3 22 214 (SW) 465 ptly cldy none 01:00 41 -2 20 225 (SW) 456 ptly cldy none 02:00 42 -3 20 240 (WSW) 320 ptly cldy none 03:00 40 -3 11 249 (WSW) 272 ptly cldy none 04:00 41 1 17 234 (SW) 335 ptly cldy none 05:00 42 4 19 208 (SSW) 356 mstly clr none 06:00 41 5 22 210 (SSW) 450 mstly clr none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
