Shortly after we focused triplespec would lock-up taking exposures for random exposures during a sequence. After some investigation we learned that the instrument would complete the exposure after 3 minutes or multiples of 3 minutes. I quickly ran out of ideas and called Fritz for assistance since at first glance it appeared to be a hub related issue rather than an instrument or icc problem. After 30 minutes Fritz did not learn the cause of the problem and directed me to call Matt N. Matt and Fritz spent about another 30 minutes tracking down the cause of the problem as the observer still attempted to take data. The problem turned out to be an mtu mismatch setting in the network switch shared between the hub and triplespec/tcam icc computers. Once the setting was corrected we saw not other problems for the rest of the night. Although exposures locked up randomly and only lasted on average for 3 minutes a time, I kept a record of most of the events. I estimate an hour of sky time was lost to this problem over 2 1/2 hours time. Skies were photometric with moderate seeing all night. No other problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW13 T I/H 19:30 20:30 mtu mismatch in the network switch ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:02 TSPEC -184( 172) 83 17 2.9 7.7 5.3 6.1 3.5 Ks 1.24 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 47 10 12 205 (SSW) 456 clear none 17:00 42 8 12 183 (S) 466 clear none 18:00 37 8 6 175 (S) 477 clear none 19:00 33 8 14 83 (E) 294 clear none 20:00 32 8 15 79 (E) 602 clear none 21:00 32 7 16 78 (ENE) 686 clear none 22:00 31 6 13 75 (ENE) 905 clear none 23:00 32 7 8 89 (E) 844 clear none 00:00 33 6 9 170 (S) 666 clear none 01:00 34 7 8 176 (S) 548 clear none 02:00 34 7 9 141 (SE) 521 clear none 03:00 34 6 12 142 (SE) 414 clear none 04:00 34 6 10 128 (SE) 427 clear none 05:00 34 5 11 151 (SSE) 449 clear none 06:00 33 5 10 150 (SSE) 493 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
