A storm that was expected to pass to the north of us instead hit us squarely. We had light snow off and on for much of the night, with accumulation of several inches by morning. I ran the snow program all night. The roof heaters were on for the warmest part of the day, but I turned them off before sunset (before the snow started) because the air temperature was too cold for them to be effective. I spent several hours working on diagnosis of a problem with the Apollo laser, and I also tried to work on the DIS slitviewer focus issue. But I found that the focus today looked different than it did just a few days ago, and I wasn't able to find a reason. The best and most reliable way to analyze the slitviewer focus will be on-sky, so I'm hoping for an opportunity to check it tomorrow night; if weather is bad, there will still be time to repeat the in-dome tests and figure out why they were inconsistent with each other. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------ 16:00 24 22 10 237 (WSW) 0 cloudy none 17:00 23 22 18 230 (SW) 0 cloudy none 18:00 22 22 18 236 (SW) 0 cloudy snow 19:00 23 22 22 234 (SW) 0 cloudy snow 20:00 23 21 16 244 (WSW) 0 cloudy snow 21:00 24 21 24 264 (W) 0 cloudy snow 22:00 23 21 19 262 (W) 0 cloudy lt snow 23:00 24 20 25 268 (W) 0 cloudy lt snow 00:00 23 20 21 262 (W) 0 cloudy lt snow 01:00 23 21 24 277 (W) 0 cloudy lt snow 02:00 22 21 27 284 (WNW) 0 cloudy none 03:00 22 21 23 275 (W) 0 cloudy none 04:00 22 21 20 279 (W) 0 cloudy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
