Humidity rose during second half; I pushed the limit somewhat after checking surfaces in the dome, but the dewpoint kept climbing until we had to close about half an hour before morning twilight. The telescope and instruments behaved beautifully. Tracking was greatly improved over the performance a week ago. The observing plan called for following a target through a very high transit, but we had to close while it was still a few minutes shy of crossing the meridian -- we did see more blips on the azimuth telemetry as the tracking speed increased, but it didn't cause any noticeable problems in image quality. The observer did see some monotonic drift in the azimuth direction, but this was at altitudes higher than our pointing model goes, so it was probably not due to axis misbehavior. ------------- FAILURE LOG -------------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (STEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:09 dis-slit 38( 191) 89 64 7.5 11.2 10.0 10.1 9.2 - 1.40 01:13 SPICAM 54( 296) 107 33 7.0 7.1 7.4 6.4 6.9 z 0.85 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 58 36 7 264 (W) 621 clear none 17:00 55 35 4 274 (W) 618 clear none 18:00 53 36 3 266 (W) 483 clear none 19:00 46 35 10 81 (E) 663 clear none 20:00 47 35 5 85 (E) 557 clear none 21:00 49 35 1 133 (SE) 602 clear none 22:00 48 35 2 205 (SSW) 629 clear none 23:00 46 35 7 191 (S) 507 clear none 00:00 46 37 5 183 (S) 531 clear none 01:00 45 38 12 184 (S) 634 clear none 02:00 44 38 8 181 (S) 621 clear none 03:00 44 39 8 180 (S) 684 clear none 04:00 45 39 7 194 (SSW) 753 clear none 05:00 46 40 7 221 (SW) 798 clear humid 06:00 45 41 5 262 (W) 936 clear humid Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
