Mediocre and variable seeing improved partway through first half, but then got worse along with increasing winds after midnight. Wind was coming from the direction where the telescope was pointing, and I could see the telescope struggling on the dataq. When the wind settled above the limit I closed, and stayed closed for the remainder of the night with winds sometimes above 40 mph. Pointing was off by 2 arcminutes or more, but I was reluctant to change the tertiary tilts given our recent troubles with the actuators, scheduled for work on Monday. Instead, I made a calib offset pointing correction, and since we were tracking the same object all night the guider was able to compensate for the change in behavior of calib offsets at different altitudes. The instrument and telescope (aside from the pointing) behaved well. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------- 18:17 dis-slit -100( -218) 138 56 4.6 5.5 5.0 4.4 4.3 - 1.50 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 45 21 18 258 (WSW) 535 ptly cldy none 17:00 41 19 16 189 (S) 482 ptly cldy none 18:00 39 18 12 205 (SSW) 566 ptly cldy none 19:00 40 16 17 227 (SW) 511 mstly clr none 20:00 40 16 20 199 (SSW) 531 clear none 21:00 40 17 20 203 (SSW) 571 clear none 22:00 41 16 23 218 (SW) 594 clear none 23:00 41 15 29 197 (SSW) 603 mstly clr none 00:00 41 13 20 202 (SSW) 586 ptly cldy none 01:00 40 11 32 216 (SW) 569 ptly cldy none 02:00 40 8 27 218 (SW) 432 ptly cldy none 03:00 40 6 30 234 (SW) 487 ptly cldy none 04:00 39 8 30 231 (SW) 579 ptly cldy none 05:00 39 11 26 231 (SW) 545 mstly cldy none 06:00 38 17 31 249 (WSW) 574 mstly cldy none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
