Seeing was moderate to good all evening. At the start of the UC01 time, I rotated the tertiary to NA1 and setup the echelle for focusing. Before I could start the tertiary reported a CORRPOS position error message that it could not correct the positions of acquators A and B. A second move was attempted but also failed. I then tried to home the tertiary. I could not get the mirror to home properly. In retrospec this was due to operator error on my part. I was giving an incorrect syntax to the galil mirror controller. Unable to figure out what the problem was at the time I called Nick. Nick was unable to access the controller from home. Uncertain at the time what the problem was Nick had me attempt a reset. Nick eventually ended coming to the site where he was able to home the mirror on the first attempt. We lost 2 hours on the sky. Nick believed that the inital problem likely occured when the direction signal to the encoder(s) dropped out and the mirror got in a extremely tilted state. The final home took an extra long time for at least one of the three acquators. Shortly after we got back on sky my observers computer died and they scrambled to get up and running with with another. Very little time was lost. The rest of the night went by very smoothly. No other problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UC01 E T/H 23:05 00:05 Tertiary CORRPOS on A and B NM09 E T/H 00:05 01:05 Tertiary CORRPOS on A and B ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:19 dis-slit -430(-483) 97 57 2.5 6.8 4.3 4.4 3.7 -- 1.35 18:47 NA2gdr 2606(24606) 13 56 2.7 5.8 4.2 2.7 3.2 R+nd2 0.97 18:50 NA2gdr 1863(23863) 12 56 2.8 5.7 4.1 3.4 3.1 R+nd2 0.98 01:34 SPICAM -68( -128) -70 61 2.3 1.8 2.3 1.1 2.4 r 0.78 01:38 NA2gdr 397(30397) -71 61 2.6 1.8 2.4 1.1 2.5 clear 1.01 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 46 12 8 230 (SW) 4200 clear dust 17:00 41 12 5 201 (SSW) 3894 clear dust 18:00 37 9 2 232 (SW) 3405 clear dust 19:00 37 8 5 239 (WSW) 2033 clear none 20:00 37 8 5 267 (W) 2174 clear none 21:00 36 8 9 307 (NW) 2281 clear none 22:00 33 9 9 359 (N) 1956 clear none 23:00 34 8 8 338 (NNW) 1660 clear none 00:00 35 6 9 10 (N) 462 clear none 01:00 36 5 3 312 (NW) 139 clear none 02:00 38 5 7 331 (NNW) 139 clear none 03:00 38 4 5 329 (NNW) 177 clear none 04:00 37 5 6 352 (N) 213 clear none 05:00 37 5 13 6 (N) 200 clear none 06:00 36 5 8 358 (N) 156 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
