The switch from NA2 to NA1 revealed that pointing for the echelle was off again by about 4 arcminutes (out of the field of view) below the slit. Pointing back at NA2 when we switched to DIS was also off but still well within the field of view. At 02:30 the Spicam ICC failed taking exposures in the middle of a sequence. I attempted several types of resets but could not get the instrument to take another exposure since it thought one was active. Finally, I got it to abort the sequence with a stop and start of the ICC, a restart of the spicam nubs and an init of the instrument. Other combinations including a zap would not stop the active exposure. At 03:40 we had a major dust event. I quickly reconfigured ventillation in hopes of staying open. This leveled off the 1.0um levels in the dome at 4500 counts but did not cause thm to drop. Dust dropped slowly and we remainded open. Seeing was moderate for most of the night and rather poor after 3am. No other problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- CU01 S I/H 02:33 02:45 ICC locked, exp couldn't reset ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 17:53 TSPEC -250( -8) 13 77 3.2 6.9 5.1 5.4 3.7 Ks 1.34 18:58 ECHELLE -302(-1162) -50 75 3.0 4.9 4.3 3.6 3.8 nd2 1.33 20:26 dis-slit -88( -267) -30 52 4.5 4.2 4.5 3.1 4.2 -- 1.32 20:40 dis-slit -38( -218) -34 51 4.9 4.2 4.6 3.4 4.2 -- 1.32 00:23 SPICAM -107( 13) 96 46 5.4 5.1 5.5 4.9 5.3 V 1.29 00:31 NA2gdr 1997(31997) 96 49 5.3 5.0 5.3 4.8 5.0 R+nd2 1.70 03:23 SPICAM 23( -67) 89 65 0.4 1.2 1.4 0.7 0.8 6450 1.74 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 40 4 1 348 (NNW) 375 mstly clr none 17:00 39 -2 3 303 (WNW) 183 mstly clr none 18:00 35 1 6 33 (NNE) 219 clear none 19:00 37 -3 9 23 (NNE) 145 clear none 20:00 40 -4 11 24 (NNE) 124 clear none 21:00 42 -2 6 29 (NNE) 173 clear none 22:00 43 4 6 89 (E) 156 clear none 23:00 43 6 14 80 (E) 183 clear none 00:00 42 1 19 74 (ENE) 122 clear none 01:00 41 4 17 91 (E) 109 clear none 02:00 40 3 16 77 (ENE) 119 clear none 03:00 34 2 18 78 (ENE) 1210 clear dust 04:00 33 4 20 73 (ENE) 6078 clear dust 05:00 32 6 21 73 (ENE) 7649 clear dust 06:00 35 8 18 64 (ENE) 2644 clear dust Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
