Near sunset the clouds thinned and the anticipated rise in humidity didn't happen, so we opened on time. Surprisingly, the clouds continued to get thin, the humidity dropped, and the seeing improved. First half was productive. There were still some hangups of the guider despite a fix recently added. Fritz even updated this fix and had me restart the nubs, but more hangups occurred after that. These hangups are no longer associated with a message reporting that it waits too short a time for the offset to finish; there were multiple cases where it hung despite saying it would wait 0.75s. However, all other behavior of the hangups was the same, including the workaround of making a zero-size offset. I sent Fritz some timestamps of examples to look for in the log. Tertiary rotation had been incorrect during checkout and required a home (fortunately a single home was sufficient), but the changes to and from APOLLO went without a hitch. Some clouds moved in after midnight and caused a struggle for APOLLO, but we managed to get some signal from three reflectors even so. After the change back to DIS, the clouds thickened. The observer got some data, but mostly only on standard stars rather than science targets. I was not aware of any guider hangups during this period. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:44 dis-slit 50( 383) -40 67 11.6 14.9 13.5 14.3 12.8 1.40 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 57 44 7 275 (W) 792 mstly cldy none 17:00 57 41 2 301 (WNW) 710 mstly cldy none 18:00 55 40 7 310 (NW) 696 mstly cldy none 19:00 54 40 5 358 (N) 595 ptly cldy none 20:00 49 41 7 359 (N) 1020 ptly cldy none 21:00 54 38 6 18 (NNE) 565 clear none 22:00 53 36 13 51 (NE) 667 clear none 23:00 53 40 12 79 (E) 571 mstly clr none 00:00 53 37 13 82 (E) 815 ptly cldy none 01:00 53 41 12 86 (E) 738 ptly cldy none 02:00 50 42 16 76 (ENE) 836 ptly cldy humid 03:00 48 46 13 77 (ENE) 1188 ptly cldy humid 04:00 48 47 12 81 (E) 1361 mstly clr humid 05:00 48 47 10 84 (E) 2023 mstly clr humid The convention used is north=0 degrees, east=90 degrees.
