The observers said they could et useful science in just a few minutes, so I was aggressive about taking advantage when humidity did drop -- this turned out to be the beginning of a trend so we were able to stay open. Seeing was poor at first but improved after midnight. The echelle bit-dropping problem has been fixed, but now that we can actually look at the images I found clear signs of contamination on the chip. We suspect something wrong with the new, newly-installed ion pump. At Nick's request, I closed the valve to the echelle CCD at midnight. So it filled at 22:30 but not at 02:30. This should ensure that the CCD temperature is well above the shield temperature for daytime work on the ion pump. While Agile was in use I ran the autofocus script. It was generally well-behaved but I found one or two new bugs that need stomping. I stopped running the script when seeing became less stable, since it's known to be less reliable in that case. Agile hung up at one point; although the recovery was simple, some time was lost because it wasn't noticed right away. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- UW05 P I/S 03:27 03:25 Agile readout hung ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:10 dis-slit 64( 384) 39 60 10.9 14.5 13.5 13.0 11.6 - 1.70 01:32 AGILE -150( -332) 5 62 10.6 10.5 11.0 9.9 10.4 B 1.00 01:36 NA2gdr -6605( 4394) 3 62 10.7 10.5 11.0 9.9 10.3 Clear 1.20 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 58 47 11 82 (E) 1868 mstly cldy none 17:00 59 47 10 44 (NE) 1855 mstly cldy none 18:00 59 47 12 66 (ENE) 2445 ptly cldy none 19:00 58 47 10 63 (ENE) 3194 ptly cldy none 20:00 53 48 19 68 (ENE) 3416 ptly cldy humid 21:00 52 49 17 65 (ENE) 3667 ptly cldy humid 22:00 52 46 22 61 (ENE) 3133 ptly cldy none 23:00 52 44 14 81 (E) 2624 mstly clr none 00:00 51 44 21 61 (ENE) 2561 clear none 01:00 51 43 19 73 (ENE) 2652 clear none 02:00 52 39 13 72 (ENE) 2231 clear none 03:00 52 40 11 72 (ENE) 1772 clear none 04:00 52 43 1 258 (WSW) 2333 clear none 05:00 51 43 1 268 (W) 2344 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
