Humidity was high at the beginning of the night but steadily declined; dust just barely reached the limit, but since interior dust was much lower I felt safe just changing the fan states, and soon the dust came back down again. Lots of commissioning data were obtained for Triplespec, and no significant (new) problems cropped up. The known broken-mask problem meant it was harder to guide in boresight mode for medium-brightness stars, but for the most part we found enough field stars. The focus script worked with some minor edits. The instrumental astigmatism produced some weird-looking images but made sense once I got the hang of it. I don't think any of the strangely-shaped images were attributable to tracking, even at a fairly high transit. APOLLO got returns from all three Apollo retroreflectors, though quite weak from one of them. NIC-FPS got excellent seeing and no apparent signs of tracking problems. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SAEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ---------------------------------------------------------------------- 22:58 TSPEC 81( 29) 81 61 2.0 0.9 1.1 -0.1 1.3 - 1.06 00:10 APOLLO 0( 573) 24 43 1.8 1.0 1.1 -0.1 1.3 - 1.50 03:06 NICFPS -42( 259) 74 30 1.7 1.1 0.9 -0.3 1.2 2.12 0.65 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 35 22 8 294 (WNW) 3897 clear none 17:00 35 24 3 289 (WNW) 2194 clear none 18:00 36 24 8 277 (W) 2215 clear none 19:00 33 25 6 352 (N) 1865 clear none 20:00 32 17 15 27 (NNE) 2616 clear none 21:00 33 16 10 13 (NNE) 3039 clear none 22:00 34 4 15 13 (NNE) 2714 clear none 23:00 35 3 13 28 (NNE) 2721 clear none 00:00 35 0 14 45 (NE) 2790 clear none 01:00 36 -8 9 38 (NE) 2802 clear none 02:00 36 -9 9 66 (ENE) 2602 clear none 03:00 36 -9 1 153 (SSE) 2538 clear none 04:00 35 -10 1 209 (SSW) 2451 clear none 05:00 36 -10 2 184 (S) 2440 clear none 06:00 34 -10 1 215 (SW) 2569 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
