Photometric with good seeing all night, a rare night of engineering. The work on the rotator motor was not completed today so it was left powered down. Being unable to do a pointing model at NA2 I used the first few hours to work on troubleshooting a TUI script at NA1. While the telescope still had not equalized in temperature, I offered a few hours to the Triplespec group. Although we could not use the rotator and do an instrument block, I was able create a rough enough initial instrument block by hand and forced the telescope to reject the NA2 rotator for slews so we could get first light on Triplespec. First light on Triplespec! With 2.5 hours we checked: slitviewer focus, position of the Lyot stop, and able to get some spectra on a handful of science objects to check instrument focus verses slitviewer focus. The time was very productive! At 01:30 I switched to the Shack Hartman and verified that collimation was quite good and had not changed much since the adjustment that I did a week and a half ago. I then switched to fastcam for the remainder of the night. No other problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SAEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 19:57 ECHELLE -250(-1066) -4 66 2.9 5.8 5.1 4.5 3.4 nd2 0.69 22:45 TSPEC 25( 56) -54 58 2.8 2.5 2.2 1.6 2.5 Ks 1.25 01:05 SHACK -135( 405) 196 59 3.5 2.7 3.1 2.1 3.0 -- 1.00 02:37 FASTCAM3 -63( 974) -11 76 3.2 2.9 3.2 2.6 3.2 -- 1.00 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 46 6 10 293 (WNW) 2045 clear none 17:00 46 5 8 265 (W) 2175 clear none 18:00 44 2 7 279 (W) 2278 clear none 19:00 42 0 6 248 (WSW) 2309 clear none 20:00 37 -3 5 181 (S) 2515 clear none 21:00 37 -5 7 179 (S) 2343 clear none 22:00 37 -1 6 180 (S) 2392 clear none 23:00 36 0 14 153 (SSE) 2486 clear none 00:00 37 1 16 175 (S) 2164 clear none 01:00 38 2 18 201 (SSW) 2110 clear none 02:00 39 8 11 183 (S) 1748 clear none 03:00 38 6 17 209 (SSW) 1647 clear none 04:00 38 6 12 193 (SSW) 1762 clear none 05:00 37 5 18 183 (S) 1566 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
