Seeing was moderate to good in the near IR first half and moderate in the optical the rest of the night. During my afternoon checkout of the instruments I dicovered a problem with the echelle. It turned out that one of the RAID disks on the icc computer had failed. Jon Brinkmann spent many hours past midnight bringing the instrument back to life. I was able to verify return of communications to the echelle and the echelle motor controller during second half. No other problems tonight. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SAEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:34 NICFPS -182( 187) 38 74 -0.2 3.5 1.8 2.2 0.8 Ks 1.27 18:43 NA2gdr -689(42310) 31 76 -0.4 3.1 1.6 1.8 0.5 R+nd2 1.25 22:46 APOLLO -25( 443) -16 69 -0.6 -0.6 -0.2 -1.4 -0.8 -- 1.30 00:28 dis-slit 33( -435) -48 77 -1.1 -1.3 -0.7 -1.9 -1.3 -- 1.05 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 35 9 7 2 (N) 1274 ptly cldy none 17:00 37 11 10 286 (WNW) 1228 ptly cldy none 18:00 36 14 14 344 (NNW) 850 ptly cldy none 19:00 33 15 8 72 (ENE) 750 ptly cldy none 20:00 31 13 12 55 (NE) 777 ptly cldy none 21:00 32 12 7 353 (N) 937 ptly cldy none 22:00 32 12 13 3 (N) 834 clear none 23:00 31 11 2 303 (WNW) 894 clear none 00:00 30 11 5 351 (N) 841 clear none 01:00 30 14 7 274 (W) 815 clear none 02:00 29 14 8 270 (W) 804 clear none 03:00 29 11 11 321 (NW) 1263 clear none 04:00 29 12 12 304 (NW) 1046 clear none 05:00 28 12 9 308 (NW) 1237 clear none 06:00 28 12 6 275 (W) 978 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
