I phoned Fritz and he got the controller running again. A night of mixed clouds and variable seeing. We closed for a couple of hours in the middle of the night due to thick clouds and some radar returns. Echelle and DIS worked nicely. I was pleased to see that pointing with the echelle was excellent, since (I think) it has not been used since the secondary mirror wandered off a week and a half ago. This means either the secondary is right back where it's supposed to be, or the secondary and tertiary moved in complementary ways (and the Shack-Hartmann conspired to cover it up...). The first explanation is the simplest and happiest. When we got on the sky again and tried to focus spicam, it gave the error about a spurious character getting into the buffer somehow. I restarted the nubs and that cleared the problem with essentially no time lost. ------- FAILURE LOG ------- PROG INST FAILURE MODE TIME (SAEDFNVOG) TI/SHU START FINISH DESCRIPTION ---------------------------------------------------------------------- ---------------- FOCUS LOG --------------- Time Instrument Focus Az El Temp Strc Prim Sec Air filt FWHM ----------------------------------------------------------------------- 18:49 ECHELLE -109( -823) 244 53 5.9 7.6 7.3 6.8 6.2 0.95 19:21 dis-slit -115( -80) 80 64 5.0 6.8 6.8 5.8 5.6 1.50 02:09 SPICAM 0( 89) 228 33 4.0 4.0 4.3 3.8 4.0 g' 1.80 ------------- WEATHER LOG ---------------- Wind Precip.or Time Temp F Dewp F MPH Direction Dust Sky Conditions ------------------------------------------------------------------- 16:00 50 9 7 271 (W) 848 ptly cldy none 17:00 50 9 10 279 (W) 777 ptly cldy none 18:00 47 9 12 294 (WNW) 834 ptly cldy none 19:00 44 7 11 273 (W) 836 mstly clr none 20:00 43 9 14 232 (SW) 1044 mstly clr none 21:00 41 9 16 233 (SW) 1065 mstly clr none 22:00 41 8 19 259 (W) 987 ptly cldy none 23:00 41 7 16 269 (W) 955 ptly cldy none 00:00 40 11 16 269 (W) 1391 mstly cldy none 01:00 40 11 12 307 (NW) 1312 mstly cldy none 02:00 40 8 13 11 (N) 876 mstly cldy none 03:00 40 10 11 330 (NNW) 655 ptly cldy none 04:00 38 12 10 352 (N) 649 ptly cldy none 05:00 37 12 14 306 (NW) 633 clear none 06:00 36 12 14 330 (NNW) 590 clear none Note: the wind was coming from the azimuth listed.
